day 1 - hathian

Kelly stepped off the train and glanced around her. This place wasn't what she expected, but she knew he'd never follow her here, if he followed her at all.

First thing she had to think about was somewhere to stay, so she booked into a cheap little motel. The room was filthy but that didn't matter. It was somewhere to sleep, somewhere she could hide until she found her feet in this strange city. The noise from outside was shut out only by the racket from the rooms around her.
Kelly sat on the bed, unable to cry or even think about what she'd left. She opened her bag, checked her cell, not knowing what to expect. No messages.

Grabbing her backpack, (she knew better than to leave things in motel rooms) Kelly locked her door and walked out onto the noisy, run down streets of Hathian. She soon found a coffee shop, with a few people sat inside chatting loudly. The corner seat by the window suited her well. The newspaper sat deserted on the table told her that nothing much was happening, but the local university had some short courses in art, her favourite subject.
Tuition cost money, but a call to an old friend covered that. Obviously with the promise to pay it back as soon as she could. Kelly finally had a glimmer of hope that she could do something with her life.

She took a bus to the campus. It seemed quiet enough, with students dotted about lolling against walls and drinking coffee in the campus coffee shop. The registrations office was empty, with the exception of a miserable looking woman at the desk.
"I'd like to register for the short course in Art." Kelly told her, knowing her British accent seemed out of place from the minute the woman looked up.
"That's $850." the woman snapped, "and sessions are once a week for a year."
Kelly thought this odd for a short course, but gave her friend's details for payment and took the information package she was offered. The transaction was quick and soon Kelly found herself heading onto campus. She knew this was her last chance at a fresh start, and she was going to do all that she could to stop other people ruining it this time.
